Charles Frederick Aris sworn and examined:-

I am P.S. 97. On 4th. instant at 6.15 on instructions

I went to Kennedy Hospital. I saw deceased there. He said the boys wanted to poison him, and that he overheard the cook say he meant to cut his head off that night. I thought he was under a delusion. He told me Dr. Kelly had said he could have an Indian Constable. I stayed with deceased till 7.30 trying to get Dr. Kelly on the 'phone. During that time deceased behaved in an odd way. I think he was sober. He refused to touch his dinner as it was poisoned he said. A constable was finally put on duty at the Hospital for that night.

George Watt sworn and examined:

I am P.S. 11. About 10.30 a.m. on 6th. instant on information received I went to Kennedy Hospital. I entered deceased's bathroom with Mr. Kynoch and the 2 ward boys. I saw deceased lying on the floor. I found the 2 towels produced on the floor by deceased': head, the tumbler at his right side, the broken bottle at his left side. I found the nipple for the gas burner on a cupboard. I took possession of these articles and next morning handed them over to Dr. Browne. I had the body of deceased taken to the mortuary. I

found deceased's dinner untouched in his bedroom and handed it to Dr.

Browne.

The Bathroom door leading into the verandah was locked

I find that deceased met his death from C.0. poisoning

or from an overdose of morphia or from both.

I find further that deceased administered both poisons to himself, and that he was at the time of doing so suffering from

delusions.

I return a verdict of suicide during a state of

temporary insanity.
